Model No. :
Brand : Defelsko
The PosiTector UTG is a comprehensive, non-destructive ultrasonic thickness gauge platform engineered to accurately measure the wall thickness of diverse materials, including steel, plastic, and various alloys. This gauge is an indispensable tool for monitoring the destructive effects of corrosion or erosion on industrial assets such as tanks and pipes, especially where access is limited to a single side. The modular PosiTector body is compatible with four specialized probe types, providing tailored measurement solutions from Thru-Paint to Precision thin materials.
- Measures wall thickness on pipes, vessels, and structures
- Ideal for monitoring corrosion and erosion damage in NDT
- Modular system with specialized Thru-Paint and Precision probes

Ultrasonic Thickness Gage (UTG) - Measures Wall Thickness
+ FAQs
What is the measuring accuracy of the PosiTector UTG?
The accuracy depends on the model. Standard UTG C, M, and CLF probes offer an accuracy of ±0.03 mm (±0.001“), while the UTG P (Precision) probe provides a higher accuracy of ±0.01 mm (±0.0004“).
What does the Advanced Model offer over the Standard Model?
Advanced Models provide significantly more memory (250,000 readings in batches), WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, A-Scan and B-Scan capabilities, Prompted Batch Mode, and live graphing on the gauge.
Does the PosiTector UTG require calibration before use?
No, the PosiTector UTG arrives fully calibrated and ready to measure with an included NIST or PTB traceable Long Form Certificate of Calibration. Verification can be performed using an accessory Certified Step Block.
How does the UTG M (Multiple Echo) probe measure metal thickness under paint?
The Multiple-Echo technique measures the time between consecutive back wall echoes from the metal. By measuring multiple echoes, the gauge calculates the metal thickness only and effectively cancels out the slower velocity signal from the coating thickness.
Can the UTG series be used for sub-surface flaw detection?
While primarily a wall thickness gauge, the Advanced Models with their A-Scan feature allow users to analyze the ultrasonic waveform. This can be used to visually identify sub-surface flaws or inclusions by observing intermediate echoes within the material.
