Magnetic Thickness Gages for Non-Magnetic Coatings on Steel
Magnetic Thickness Gages for Non-Magnetic Coatings on Steel
Model No. :
Brand : Defelsko
The PosiTest magnetic pull-off gauge, often referred to as a “banana gauge,” is the definitive, robust instrument for non-destructively measuring non-magnetic coatings on steel. It is a highly accurate mechanical device that requires no electrical power, providing dependable service in the harshest industrial conditions.
- Measures non–magnetic coatings on ferrous metals only
- Mechanical operation requires no batteries or electronics
- Rugged housing resists mechanical shock, acid, and water
− Features
Accurate
- Certificate of Calibration showing traceability to PTB included with every gage
- Matching Calibration Standards and Procedures available for every model
- Highly wear resistant Carbide Probe for longest life and continuous accuracy
- Remove center of dial cover for easy calibration adjustment
- Conforms to national and international standards
Durable
- Extra rugged housing, not affected by mechanical shock, water, acid or solvents
- Unique overall design, fully supported, positive positioning, no pivoting tendencies during measurement
- Can be used fully supported or with only the front probe area contacting the surface
- Functions on a permanent rare-earth cobalt magnet
- No batteries/electronics
Simple
- Positive visual and audible indicators to designate when thickness reading is established
- “V” grooves in probe housing and Gage base allow correct positioning on cylindrical objects
- Compact, lightweight, precisely balanced, independent of gravity – can be used in any position
- GO/NO-GO button can be pre-set for rapid measurement
- Probe contact and dial rotation all in a one-finger operation
- Furnished with wrist strap and instructions in a high quality leather case with belt loops for your convenience

PosiTest®
+ FAQs
Is the PosiTest intrinsically safe for hazardous environments?
The PosiTest does not require Intrinsically Safe certification because its design is fully mechanical (non–electronic) and cannot generate sparks. It is suitable for use in potentially hazardous locations.
Does the PosiTest measure on non–ferrous metals like aluminum or brass?
No, the PosiTest is a magnetic pull–off instrument and can only measure non–magnetic coatings on ferrous (steel) metal substrates.
How does the PosiTest compare to the PosiPen gauge?
The PosiTest offers superior accuracy and ease–of–use due to its larger dial and ability to hold the reading after the magnet releases. The PosiPen is better suited for extremely small, hot, or hard–to–reach surfaces.
Can the PosiTest be used for measurements on submerged parts or underwater?
Yes, the PosiTest features corrosion–resistant brass construction and can be immersed in fresh or saltwater. It is recommended to rinse with freshwater after use in saltwater.
How do I compensate for surface roughness when using the PosiTest?
The best practice is to establish a Base Metal Reading (BMR) by averaging several measurements on an uncoated section of the substrate. This BMR is then subtracted from the coated measurements to determine the true thickness over the peaks of the rough surface.
